Color your map!

ZeeMaps now allows you to color and mark different regions of the world.

For example, you can easily create a map coloring all the countries you have visited.

We support coloring of states in Canada and the US, and all the world countries. In the future, we plan to add more states, and further divisions in the US, like zip code boundaries and counties. If you'd like to see particular region added, please send us a note or leave a comment on this blog.

To add a state, use the "Add->Region" menu item above your map. To update a region, click on it to bring up an update dialog. For both these, remember to be logged in as a moderator of the map.

The click on a region can be a bit slow, so please be patient.

Here's a map coloring the states won by Senators Clinton and Obama up to now in the Democratic Party's presidential primaries.

  • Sounds good, thanks. Will add CSV import-export for regions. Probably have three columns Region Country, Region State (Optional) and Region Color.
    Will keep you posted.

  • Great funciton!
Add regions manually is long… can you add a csv / Excel import? Just two columns would be enough to start: country and colour

  • Thanks. We’ll push US cities to the top of regions-to-add list.
By Google Maps shading, did you mean free-hand drawing in of polygons? If so, we can certainly look into that as well.
Custom marker images are hot on our list, and should be coming soon. Please stay tuned.

  • Awesome! Going in just the right direction! In Fresno, I have an embedded crime map in my site where I display the latest data from the police department. The one thing about this data is that it ONLY applies to the city of Fresno itself, so I really wish that I had the ability to shade in the boundaries of the City of Fresno for this reason. I hope it comes soon!
By the way, can’t you add the shading tools that are on Google Maps? I’d also love to have the option of adding my own pushpin image.
